We are pleased to announce the 2023 Master of Pedagogy/Teacher of the Year as high school mathematics teacher John Achille. Mr. Achille received the award and was recognized on Friday, May 12, at the 47th-annual L-S Board Recognition Banquet. He attended with his wife Cindy, their sons JD and Matt, and his father-in-law.

Mr. Achille has been part of the math department for nearly three decades. He teaches three levels of calculus, including two AP courses, geometry, and trigonometry. Mr. Achille is known by both students and colleagues for his positive attitude and his knack for making difficult content fun and exciting.

And that's not all! Mr. Achille coached varsity boys basketball for 22 years and has recently stepped up as the varsity bowling coach and varsity assistant girls lacrosse coach. He's also involved in a host of activities and traditions at the high school.

In the words of L-S High School's principal, Dr. Ben Feeney, "Mr. Achille is a consummate professional who acts with humility, kindness, and generosity; he is committed to supporting the greater good as well as every single one of his students."

In his remarks, Mr. Achille recounted how lucky he felt to be hired as an L-S teacher in 1994, that it was too good to be true.

"And I still feel the same way as I did that day," he said. "Working at L-S is too good to be true."

Congratulations to the 2023 Teacher of the Year, Mr. John D. Achille!
