Lampeter-Strasburg High School teachers nominated a senior, a sophomore, and two juniors for their achievements in the month of November 2025. Congratulations to Pioneer Superlatives Marianne Gomez-Marquez and Falcon Garabo and to Portrait of a Pioneer award winners Luke Metzler and Addison Deckman.
Pioneer Superlative
The Pioneer Superlative Award is presented to a student who exceeds expectations by seeking and utilizing feedback resulting from participation in learning activities and experiences to realize and maximize growth potential in all areas of school and community. Through persistence, determination, and motivation, this individual has improved and maintained success in one or more of the following areas: academics, attendance, behavior, and school/community involvement for the benefit and betterment of self and the L-S school community.
Marianne Gomez-Marquez
Marianne is a senior and the daughter of Maria Marquez and Adriano Gomez of Lancaster. Teachers recognize her as a dedicated student who has challenged herself with AP Biology and AP Chemistry and currently serves as a Chemistry work-study student. She is described as a gift to the school who continually seeks out leadership opportunities and generously uses her bilingual skills to assist teachers and fellow students throughout the day. Her extensive school involvement includes serving as Student Council treasurer and participating in the STEM Club, Model UN, High School Heroes program, Link Crew, and the varsity cheerleading squad. Outside of school, she is a STEM ambassador at the Lancaster Science Factory and enjoys staying active by working out, listening to music, and spending time with friends. Marianne plans to pursue a career in the medical field with the goal of becoming a cardiothoracic surgeon.
Falcon Garabo
Falcon is a sophomore and the son of Ryan and Charmaine Garabo of Lampeter. A highly conscientious and motivated student, Falcon acts as a model for his peers and consistently goes above and beyond in his learning. Teachers note that his commitment to academic success is evident in his desire to truly master content rather than simply meet requirements, often proactively utilizing resources to ensure his understanding. His school activities include the Pioneer Interact Club, the Garden Spot FFA chapter, the indoor track team, and the varsity track and field team. Falcon enjoys spending his free time running and gaming. He is planning for a post-high school career in the military or in the trades.
Portrait of a Pioneer
The Portrait of a Pioneer Award is presented to a student who exemplifies one or more of the essential skills that our High School staff believe all students should possess as a graduate of Lampeter-Strasburg. These skills will help them succeed in any career path they might choose. These essential skills include: strong communication, collaboration, critical thinking, resilience, intrinsic motivation, and a strong work ethic. This award recognizes a student who not only meets these expectations but lives them, setting a powerful example for those in the L-S school community.
Addison Deckman
Addison is a junior and the daughter of Ken and Monica Deckman of Willow Street. Addison is praised by teachers and staff for being consistently pleasant, hardworking, and fully engaged in her learning. An honor roll student, she approaches academics with maturity and is viewed as a genuine, grounded role model who brings out the best in those around her—often giving her time to tutor and support her peers in biology and Anatomy & Physiology. Her extensive school activities include Student Council (where she serves as secretary), Ski & Snowboard Club (vice president), Fair Queen Candidate, Scrubs Club, Mini-THON, Varsity Club, and the varsity girls' soccer and track and field teams. Outside of school, she plays club soccer and works as a lifeguard and waitress. Addison spends her free time playing soccer, snowboarding, and spending time with friends. After graduation, she plans to pursue a career in occupational therapy.
Luke Metzler
Luke is a junior and the son of Dean and Nikki Metzler of Lancaster. A highly motivated and hardworking student, Luke consistently demonstrates strong academic performance, organization, and self-advocacy. Teachers describe him as a pleasure to teach, noting his positive attitude and collaborative spirit; traits that have contributed to his recognition on the honor roll and as a Martin Meylin Student of the Month. His school activities include chorus, Madrigals, National Honor Society, and the Fellowship of Christian Students. Outside of school, he’s active in the local YoungLife chapter and his church youth group, has volunteered at Water Street Rescue Mission, and works at Dutch Wonderland in the park services department. Luke likes to spend his free time reading the Bible, going to church, learning engineering, creating stop-motion animation, and playing pool, Minecraft, and Dr. Who trivia. He is planning to attend Messiah University to study mechanical engineering.
